A symbolic place of female education and spirituality, the College “Immacolata” represents one of the most significant educational institutions in the city's history, combining architecture, faith, and social commitment.

The current College “Immacolata” is an 18th-century artefact crowned by a sophisticated belvedere turret. Founded by the rev. Alfio Coco in 1711, was conceived for the education of young women. The interior of the church, with an octagonal structure, a presbytery and an atrium equipped with a choir, boasts an elegant and sophisticated design, embellished with floral decorations, ornamental details and period paintings. The main altar boasts the statue of Our Lady of Lourdes, while an adjacent niche houses the simulacrum of Mary Help of Christians. Since 1881, the facility has been managed by the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (Salesian nuns) who continue to play an important role in the educational, social, religious and cultural fields. Blessed Sr. Maddalena Morano, sent to Sicily by San Giovanni Bosco, was the first director.
