Church of s. Vincenzo De’ Paoli and the Institute of Projections

Address

Via P. Toselli 5, Trecastagni

A testament to a past deeply tied to solidarity and social welfare, this church tells a significant page in the community's charitable and religious history.

Built in 1802 by order of Archpriest Giuseppe Grassi, this church was conceived as a chapel adjacent to the Institute intended to welcome young "proiette", that is, girls abandoned by their families and therefore entrusted to state-funded wet nurses. The choice to dedicate it to S. Vincenzo de' Paoli reflects the charitable ambitions of the association, inspired by the founder of the Congregation of the Daughters of Charity: to offer support to those most in need through facilities such as kindergartens, shelters, and hospitals. The exterior of the church, despite its simplicity, follows the traditional architectural styles typical of other local churches: a large window above the main entrance, decorative circular elements on the sides, and a projecting cornice at the top. Although the interior does not display any particularly valuable works of art, it is still possible to notice the wheel used to ensure anonymous communication with the exterior and the floor made of terracotta tiles. With the end of its welfare function, the church was closed and, for many years, left in a state of abandonment.
