Chiesa della misericordia detta “dei bianchi”

Indirizzo

Via Cavour 1, Trecastagni

Custodian of the oldest devotional tradition in the area, this sanctuary represents a fundamental point of reference for the religious and identity history of Trecastagni.

The oldest sanctuary in Trecastagni is the oldest place of worship in the town, at least according to the document it preserves: the date 1302 is engraved on its main bell. During the sixteenth century, this church temporarily became a point of reference for the religious and sacramental assistance of the inhabitants of Pedara, since their church had been damaged by the earthquakes of 1536 and 1537. The current structure dates from 1734, as indicated by the date engraved on the lava entablature of the side door. The frescoes on the interior vault depict the Exaltation of the Eucharist, while on the high altar, embellished with twisted columns adorned with intertwined flowers, there is an eighteenth-century gilded wooden group depicting Mercy. The facade, on the other hand, alternates plaster with carved and carved details in lava stone.
