Santuario dei ss. mm. alfio, filadelfo e cirino

The hundreds of votive tablets donated by the faithful starting in the second half of the nineteenth century to the Sanctuary of the Holy Martyrs testify to a widespread and heartfelt cult. From an anthropological point of view, they offer the opportunity to review the events of the last one hundred and fifty years through the eyes of the devout people. The world wars, the evolution of society's technology and especially of means of transport, the eruptions of Mount Etna, surgical interventions: all events recounted in tablets painted by local artisans using a simple yet expressive technique, with the sole aim of demonstrating the faithful's gratitude for the grace received. A place that on the feast days (May 10th) is very popular with devotees, some of whom stop there at the end of a tiring pilgrimage on foot.
