It was way back in 1898 when Francesco Nicosia, the great-grandfather of the current owner, decided to open the first wine shop in Trecastagni, on the eastern slope of Mount Etna. Golden times for Etna wine which was already known and appreciated throughout Europe for its mineral strength and its “volcanic” personality.

The decisive entrepreneurial turning point came at the end of the 20th century, thanks to the tenacity and innovative spirit of the current owner, Carmelo Nicosia, who, investing in the expansion and renovation of the vineyards and the construction of a modern winery, led the family business to be a protagonist in the rebirth of Sicilian wine Today, Cantine Nicosia is a dynamic, modern, and efficient company, capable of looking to the future while fully respecting tradition. At its helm, Carmelo Nicosia is supported by his two sons Francesco and Graziano, a close-knit team of young collaborators, and, last but not least, winemaker Maria Carella, a true interpreter of the company's production philosophy. Cantine Nicosia promotes the finest native grape varieties and the international varieties best adapted in Sicily, promoting the area with full respect for the environment and enhancing the raw material with careful selection of grapes and constant care of the work in the winery.
