Madonna dell’aiuto Church

Address

Via madonna dell'aiuto 38, Trecastagni

Immersed in the historic fabric of the Sciara district, this country church represents one of the most authentic testimonies of popular devotion and religious life in the area over the centuries.

An old 17th-century country church located in the "Sciara" district, it is a meeting place for many faithful and pilgrims. The date of construction can be seen on the entrance portal, where the marble episcopal coat of arms of the Vicar General Vincenzo D'Amico, dated 1648, is engraved. The church was erected in an area that once represented the suburbs, populated by less well-off residents. This is reflected in its understated, minimalist architectural lines. After being devastated by the 1693 earthquake, its reconstruction is thought to have been completed in the 19th century. The facade, divided by pillars, is finished in light stone, and the bell tower stands on the left side. The building has undergone restoration in recent periods. The interior, with a single nave, houses a sacred image dedicated to the Madonna.
